American Eagle Paper Mills is seeking a full-time Apprentice Pipefitter

SHIFT: Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm with additional on-call responsibilities as needed

LOCATION: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone PA 16686

POSITION STATUS: Full Time, Hourly, Non-exempt


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Procure, cut, rig, align, and install pipe, fittings, valves, gaskets, and hangers.
  • Use blueprints or drawings on installation or repair work.
  • Figure type of material most adaptable to job and select from brass, copper, lead, iron, stainless steel, plastic, spiral riveted or galvanized pipe (also select bolts, gaskets, and valves).
  • Apply proper oil and cutting compounds when using threading and cutting machine and hand tools.
  • Use caution to avoid accidents by checking for gases or other injurious substances.
  • Make patterns to use for devising odd-size fittings.
  • Check/replace steam traps, fire systems, valves, and sprinklers.
  • Clean pipelines and heaters.
  • Able to use a level, tape measure, and other calibrated equipment.
  • Install/maintain steam Traps.
  • Maintain control systems.
  • Insulate and cover work as needed.
  • Maintain plumbing throughout mill and company-owned property.
  • Regulate and operate electric arc welding machine (allowing for variance, quality, type of material, and distance job being performed from welding machine).
  • Use gauges as guides for proper setting of oxygen and acetylene valves for type of material being welded or burned.
  • Prepare surface for welding using wire brush and chipping hammer, grinder.
  • Perform flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead welding on copper, iron, aluminum, brass, and alloy metals.
  • Operate acetylene burning machine when fabricating materials.
  • Simple math skills such as understanding fractions and division are needed.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Observing all Mill and department safety policies and procedures.
  • Understanding the hazards in the workplace and working safely and responsibly.
  • Maintaining a good area of housekeeping in the department and disposing of any waste according to the department's requirements.
  • Maintain quality standards.
Qualifications:
  • Must be able to walk distance to the work area and throughout the plant.
  • Must be able to stand for 8-12 hours daily.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Exceptional attendance is required.
  • Previous manufacturing experience is helpful, but not required.

Work Environment:

  •  Manufacturing environment which requires the use of appropriate safety equipment including safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection in all areas of the Mill. In some areas, hard hats may be required. Cut-resistant gloves and face shields may be required while performing some duties.
  • Fast-paced environment while working under pressure.
